A number of car companies have joined the relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy.
Chevrolet is donating 50 Express cargo vans, Traverse crossover utilities and Tahoe full-size SUVs to the American Red Cross, including 300 OnStar calling minutes and a three-month subscription to the Directions and Connections plan. The GM Foundation previously donated $250,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Responder Program.
Meanwhile, Toyota announced a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross and other non-profit organizations. It will also match employee contributions.
Nissan North America offers employee pricing and lower APR financing on Nissan and Infiniti vehicles to drivers whose cars were lost or destroyed in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Fisker Automotive is helping those affected in the Delmarva region by turning its Wilmington assembly plant into a safe base for Delmarva Power utility trucks and repair crews.
Volkswagen donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross. Similar to Toyota, it will match employee contributions.
Not to be outdone, Mercedes-Benz USA made a $1 million donation and encouraged its employees to volunteer in their local communities (for which the company offers time off from work for qualifying employees) and to donate individually.
