The Californian company has announced that it will commercialize a zero-emission vehicle shortly, the Nautilus E-30. Designed to transport containers in ports and airports, the E-30 can haul up to 27,000 kg or 30 tons.
The E-30 is equipped with high-capacity batteries that have an estimated 7-year life. They can be recharged to 60% in one hour, while a complete charge will take between 4 and 6 hours. Once fully recharged, the batteries have an operating range of 96 km when the truck is empty. However, it drops to 48 km when hauling a trailer. Extra sets of batteries will be available for purchase. Truck operators will be able to replace the vehicle's batteries in a few minutes, saving them the wait required to recharge them. When towing a trailer, the truck can reach a top speed of 64 km/h. And when starting off, the E-30 is actually more powerful than a truck equipped with a diesel engine. Over a 10-year period, the use of an E-30 will enable operators to save over $400,000 in fuel compared to a diesel truck, without emitting any pollutants. The truck is priced at US$208,500 or CAN$220,000. photo: Balqon
