"Before 2018 there will be a merger," FCA boss says

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) CEO Sergio Marchionne claims that another merger in the auto industry is inevitable, and predicts it will happen by 2018, according to Autoblog .

As previously reported, General Motors turned down a merger proposal by FCA back in March.

"I am absolutely certain that before 2018 there will be a merger," said Marchionne. "It's my personal opinion, based on a gut feeling."

Does he know something we, the public, don't? Maybe. And which company could merge with FCA? That's still a mystery.

"In principle, Marchionne is right – the auto industry develops the same things ten times over," admitted GM's Opel chief Karl-Thomas Neumann, hinting that bringing major automakers together would significantly limit that redundancy.
