Luxury automakers have come under scrutiny in recent years for overcomplicating vehicle electronics systems,

and adding "functionality" that is only useful to a small segment of consumers. Will BMW's new relationship with Apple Computer follow this trend or produce a more positive response from the buying public?

While some market analysts believe integrating a fully up-gradable, blue-tooth capable PC into the German brand's dash would be more appreciated by BMW's often business minded clientele than the controversial, albeit much improved iDrive system, a new relationship with Cupertino, California's Apple Computer will get the blue and white roundel badged luxury cars closer to being "wired" than ever before.

for the children of the automaker's cars than those that actually lay out the money to purchase one; that is until such new car buyers learn to appreciate just how functional Apple's portable iPod recording/playback device is.

Through savvy marketing and user multi-functionality, the iPod is currently the undisputed leader in personal portable entertainment, having joined other makers of portable recording/playback devices in the MP3 movement to replace portable CD players; which, of course, previously replaced portable cassette tape players such as the Sony Walkman - most BMW buyers will have no problems conjuring up memories of those.
