TORONTO Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman joined BMW Canada Inc.'s President and CEO, Hendrik von Kuenheim, in launching the first manufacturer based driver training program at Downsview Park on April 3. The innovative program consists of three progressive courses ranging from advanced to fascination and all holders of a Canadian driving licence are qualified to take part, regardless of whether they own a BMW or not.
"Too many people take driving for granted in our city red light running accounts for 40% of all fatalities at signalized intersections in Toronto. But we can turn Toronto motorists into better drivers through programs like the one we are launching today," said Mayor Lastman. "Driving isn't like riding a bicycle: you can forget how to do it well."
Each year, more than 10,000 enthusiastic motorists world-wide participate in BMW driver training activities a carefully conceived and constantly updated training program based on the practical analysis of accidents.
"The drivers receive instruction from professional driving instructors to develop, train and test their reflexes in everyday and emergency situations," explains Andrew Doyle, Marketing Communications Manager for BMW Canada Inc.
