BMW is adding another electric vehicle to its lineup with the unveiling of the 2027 iX4. The coupe-style SUV becomes the third model in the Neue Klasse family, following the iX3 and the i3 sedan.

The iX4 is set to launch in March 2027 with the 50 xDrive trim, which carries a Canadian starting price set at $79,900. BMW plans a more powerful M60 xDrive variant, to follow later in the year.

Where will the 2027 BMW iX4 for Canada be assembled?
Like the iX3, the iX4 will be assembled at BMW’s plant in Debrecen, Hungary.

Powertrain of the 2027 BMW iX4

The iX4 50 xDrive features two electric motors—one on each axle—providing all-wheel drive. Their combined output reaches 463 hp, while torque stands at 476 lb-ft. BMW quotes a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds.

The battery has a usable capacity of 112.2 kWh. According to preliminary manufacturer estimates, it could deliver a driving range of up to 680 km. This figure remains to be confirmed - a final official rating is still to some.

When equipped with the optional trailer hitch, the iX4 can tow up to 2,000 kg.

Charging
The 800-volt electrical architecture allows a maximum DC fast-charging capacity of 400 kW. On a compatible charger, BMW indicates that a 10-to-80-percent charge takes 21 minutes. It would also be possible to recover up to 296 km of range in 10 minutes, according to manufacturer specifications.

AC charging capacity reaches up to 15.4 kW. The vehicle is also equipped with bidirectional charging capabilities.

A 603-hp M60 variant
The M60 xDrive variant will boost output to 603 hp and torque to 645 lb-ft. The estimated time to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h drops to 3.9 seconds. This version will notably gain an Adaptive M suspension and an electronically controlled M Sport rear differential.

BMW notes that production of the M60 variant will begin in March 2027, with market rollout taking place progressively. We have no Canadian pricing for this trim right now.

The iX4 measures 4.78 metres long with a wheelbase of 2.90 metres. Like with the gas-engine X3 and X4 SUVs, its sloping roofline distinguishes its silhouette from that of the iX3. The M Sport package, 20-inch wheels and a panoramic glass roof with heat protection are included as standard equipment on the 50 xDrive trim.
