BMW's 4-door Coupe spotted

By ,

As much as we hate the term, 4-door coupe, it seems to have stormed the market since Mercedes-Benz launched the CLS-Class about 8 years ago. Since then, the segment has been slowly growing with the likes of Audi and now, finally, BMW.

While late to the game, the new 6-Series-based 4-door fastback (coupe) has been spotted. First introduced at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show as the BMW Concept Gran Coupe , this fastback will finally rival the likes of the Audi A7 (although it will be 2 inches longer than the Merc CLS-Class) with a similar shape and size and with a powertrain option that's expected to be the same as the 6-Series lineup offers now: 3.0L twin-scroll turbo, and twin-turbo V8.

BMW might seem a bit late to the party on this one, but insiders say BMW wanted to focus on the 6-Series cabriolet launch in time for North American summer instead of the coupe. And while there's speculation that it will stay under the 6 badge, some think it may take on a whole new moniker, like its concept did in Beijing.

Guess we'll all have to wait a bit longer as the 4-door coupe is set to hit showroom floors next year.
