JD Power and Associates says that five Canadian plants rank among the top 15 in North and South America when it comes to the initial quality of the vehicles they produce.The results, released yesterday, come from the 2008 U.S. Initial
Quality Study - which is based on the results of owners surveyed 90 days after a new vehicle purchase. The results are said to be a reliable indicator of vehicle quality down the line, JD Power says.

Honda's Alliston, Ontario plant, two GM plants in
Oshawa , Toyota's Cambridge plant and Ford's St.Thomas plant were all credited in the study. "As automakers across the industry continue to improve levels of initial quality, the competition is increasingly intense for Canadian plants to build very high-quality vehicles," said Richard Cooper, V.P. of J.D. Power and Associates' Canadian operations. "This is a critical component in the battle to keep auto production jobs in Canada and in attracting new investment here. It appears that Canadian plants are keeping pace with consumers' increasingly high standards for quality."
