Quebec-born and rookie driver Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10) was the fastest in the Saturday afternoon Sprint Cup car practice at Daytona going as fast as 186.150 mph. In the morning session, Pat was second fastest at 186.023 mph behind Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) at 186.285 mph. Jacques Villeneuve (Camry No 27) was fifth in the morning at 185.820. He did not run in the afternoon. Pole position qualifying will be run on Sunday for the front row. The other drivers will have to fight for the leaving positions in Thursday's qualifying races.
