CCTCC: P.J. Groenke dominated Mosport weekend

P.J. Groenke, leader of the Touring division, dominated the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship weekend in Mosport with two victories in two days on board of his VW GTi.

Ontario native Gary Kwok was second on the podium with his brother Tom completing it. Groenke was never challenged for victory.

“I just couldn’t stop. I got lucky that a Super Class car was behind me and it made a barrier for the other competitors,” he explained.

Quebec driver Michel Sallenback (Mini Cooper) and Marlin Langeveldt (Mazda Protégé) completed the Touring division podium.

The Super Touring class was also dominated by championship leader Richard Broake who got two in two on board of his Subaru STi.

His win didn’t come in easy however with Dean Fantin (BMW 330i) battling for victory all race long. Arek Wojciechowski came in third in his BMW 328i.

“They were all over me. I couldn’t even think of slowing down, otherwise they would have got to me,” said Boake.

Quebec driver Etienne Borgeat (Pontiac Solstice) and Bob Attrell (Hyundai Genesis) completed the second Super Touring podium of the weekend.

The next two rounds of the CCTCC will take place in Toronto on July 8-10.
