Chevrolet to rework the Spark

General Motors will be tweaking the North American version of the Chevrolet Spark, which currently does not meet US safety standards.

New information suggests it will feature a wider grille, redesigned air intakes and a few other minor adjustments.

Sources at Chevy say the changes will slightly alter the vehicle’s looks while satisfying American safety requirements.

Outside North America, the Spark is powered by 1.0- and 1.2-litre mills, but only the latter will be available here. The Spark currently produces 80 hp and 80 lb-ft of torque and burns about 5 L/100 km of fuel.

For now, it’s hard to tell if the engine will also be reworked before the North American launch, scheduled for 2012.
