Hotrod Chevy Will Go On Sale This Summer

Chevrolet's upcoming 2003 Chevy SSR has been confirmed as the 2003 Indy 500 official pace vehicle.
Following a long bow tie tradition, the Super Sport Roadster will be the 14th Chevy to be honored with pace vehicle status, marking the most appearances at the competition by any brand since the advent of pace cars in 1911.
On the occasion of the announcement Janet Eckhoff, General Motors Corp.'s marketing director for Chevy's midsize trucks including the SSR stated, "As we continue to build upon Chevrolet's strong performance heritage, we couldn't imagine a more appropriate venue for us to showcase our new SSR as we near the start of regular production."

To be built in Lansing, Michigan at the Lansing Craft Centre this summer, the 'halo' vehicle pays a styling tribute to GM's mid-1950s light trucks. In the same manner the SSR is all hotrod, sporting a custom low-riding look more akin to Saturday afternoon ride and shine events than the dealership showroom.
The niche convertible pickup is powered by a 5.3-L V8 engine driving the rear wheels through an automatic transmission, and is expected to perform at least as well as the brand's previously available Camaro sports coupe.
