Da Matta to drive again?

Graham Rahal delighted his fans at this week's America's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas with a series of demonstration runs in a BMW Sauber F1 car. The American, who has just finished his rookie season in Champ Car with Newman Haas, enjoyed himself with a series of burnouts and donuts in the BMW Pit Lane Park, which was laid out in one of the hotel car parks.Meanwhile, his fellow rookie competitor, Swiss Neel Jani, who also performed admirably in his first Champ Car season, scoring three podium results and 12 top-10 finishes, may be considering the test driver role with Red Bull Racing, which was split in 2007 between Michael Ammermuller and Sebastien Buemi. The energy drink maker remains a backer of Jani, which is how he landed at PKV last season. Cristiano da Matta, the 2002 Champ Car World Series champion, could compete at this year's Rolex 24 at Daytona if he gets his doctor's clearance. This would be da Matta's first race since suffering severe head injuries after he hit a deer during a Champ Car test at Road America in August 2006.Da Matta could drive a second car fielded by Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing, perhaps alongside fellow Champ Car veteran and friend Jimmy Vasser, if Gainsco decides to run a second car.
