Dakar: Carlos Sainz clinches first stage win in 2010 Dakar

Carlos Sainz (Volkswagen Touareg) captured victory in today’s stage of the Dakar raid event to extend his lead over his VW teammate, Nasser Al-Attiyah.

After Al-Attiyah got closer to Sainz by winning stages 7 and 9 in recent days, the former World Rally driver from Spain finally got his act together and captured his first stage win of this year’s edition of the famed event held in South America.

Sainz arrived in first place, just 28 seconds ahead of Stephane Peterhansel’s BMW.

American driver Mark Miller, driving a VW Touareg, finished in third place, ahead of Al-Attiyah.

NASCAR driver Robby Gordon, at the wheel of a Hummer was 9th today and lies 10th in the overall standings.

Tomorrow, the drivers will drive back to Argentina, to reach city of San Juan.
