Daytona 24: NASCAR champion back for another run with Grand-Am champions

By ,

Four-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will participate to a sixth Daytona 24 race in the past seven years on January 30-31, 2010.

During a crazy week of celebrations for Johnson, that will cumulate in the award ceremony of tomorrow, in Las Vegas, the record four-times-consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion took a moment off to announce a new participation in the mythic 24 Hours of Daytona race in January.

After collaborating with team Riley Motorsports and Howard/Boss Motorsports in the past, Johnson will take on a third participation with GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing in 2010. He will team with Grand-Am Rolex champions Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney as well as respected driver Jimmy Vasser.

"Bob does a great job of keeping the team at the top, especially when you consider the competition from teams like Ganassi and some others. They are a threat each week and that says a lot about the team that Bob has put together," Johnson said.

In the 2009 edition of the race, the team kept the No. 99 car in contention for the overall win throughout the race which they finished in seventh place.
