Detroit 2012: Maserati unleashes the Kubang All-new Italian luxury crossover to be built in the Motor City

By ,

Originally unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last fall and planned for Europe only, the Maserati Kubang made its North American debut in Detroit.

The manufacturer announced that production of its first-ever luxury crossover, which will soon get a more Italian-sounding name, will take place at Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant right in the Motor City.

While the engine is being developed in Modena, Italy, the Maserati Kubang will be built on the same platform and on the same assembly line as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Chrysler will also take care of global distribution.
