The 283-horsepower, 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 is backed by a significantly updated, 18-percent stiffer suspension. Engineers also increased spring rates by 17 percent in the front and more than 12 percent in the rear. Front and rear strut damping rates are up 15 and 20 percent, respectively, while the rear stabilizer bar grows from 19 to 21 millimetres in diameter.

The cabin of the 2012 Dodge Avenger R/T sports heated front seats in distinctive Aunde fabric with Z stripe fabric inserts, red stitching and aggressive leather-trimmed bolsters, not to mention “R/T” graphics. Other interior features include a centre-mounted tachometer, SRT-inspired brake and accelerator pedals, a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and last but not least, a 276-watt Boston Acoustic sound system with touchscreen and 30-gigabyte hard drive.

The exterior boasts unique styling elements, including a body-coloured grille, “war paint” R/T decal on the front quarter panel and exclusive 18-inch painted aluminum wheels.

Built at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan, the 2012 Dodge Avenger R/T will be on display in New York from April 22 to May 1 before arriving in dealerships in the third quarter of 2011.
