Dodge has done a fantastic job of teasing the media and car buffs alike with their upcoming Challenger coupe. Available in several different trim levels and powered by several different engines, Challenger goes on sale this spring as a 2008 model year vehicle.Pricing was announced yesterday for the fire-breathing 425 horsepower Challenger SRT-8, and bidding will open at $44,995. The Brampton-built muscle-coupe was previously announced to be priced at $37,995 USD. The car will feature a plentiful list of go-fast touches, like 20-inch wheels, HID lighting and a 6.1 liter HEMI V8 breathing out through a dual-exhaust system.
Don't go rushing to your dealer just yet- as Dodge began taking orders in December before the machine even began production, and thousands of copies were spoken for within the first 24 hours. Largely responsible were enthusiasts who reached for their chequebooks before even seeing officially what the car would look like."The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 offers pure American pony-car muscle," said James Press, Vice Chairman & President of Chrysler LLC. "With styling that stays true to Challenger's original heritage, an abundance of modern amenities and cutting-edge technology, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will deliver the SRT credo of benchmark performance at a tremendous value. We'll soon follow with a complete lineup of Challenger models that will offer a wide array of features and deliver outstanding value for our customers" he added.Additionally, a limited production version called the Challenger SRT8 500 will be available with distinguishing upgrades to offer owners increased exclusivity and a taste of Dodge's racing heritage.
