In addition to the 3500-series Chassis-Cab models launched late in 2006, DaimlerChrysler is widening its commercial truck range with these two behemoths. In a market with sales of about 140,000 vehicles a year, Dodge expects great potential for the Ram. Power comes from either a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine that produces 305 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque. Although the numbers are similar then the current 5.9-liter Cummins, the new engine is said to pollute less as well as provide greater fuel economy. Transmission choices include a standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic. In its segment, the Ram 4500/5500 features the largest fuel tank (52 gallons), the largest brake rotors and best-in-class first-gear launch.
