DTM: BMW confirms three teams for 2012

By ,

BMW Motorsport has confirmed the name of three teams that will run its M3s in the 2012 DTM championship.

BMW will supply cars to MBR, and Reinhold Schnizer Motorsports, which will enter two cars each.

No surprise about RBM and Schnitzer. Team RBM ran the 320 si’s in the last seasons of the World Touring Car Championship, and clinched the drivers’ title with Andy Priaulx in 2007.

Priaulx and Augusto Farfus will be involved in the development of the BMW DTM car, and will surely be teammates again in 2012 in the DTM.

Schnitzer is also linked to BMW through endurance racing, as the team used to compete in the American Le Mans series, Le Mans 24 Hours and the Nürburgring 24 Hours with the BMW M3 GT2, which will serve as the base model of the new DTM race car.

For the third team, BMW has evaluated several candidates, and decided to go ahead with German Reinhold Motorsport, a structure based near the Nürburgring circuit and previously involved in GT racing and WRC.
