DTM: Canadian Bruno Spengler confident after first practice session in China

Canadian Bruno Spengler (C-Class Mercedes DTM) was quite confident about his performance after the first free practice session in Shanghai, China on Friday.

The native of Montebello, Quebec - who leads the provisional point standings with a three-point advantage over Paul Di Resta - set the 6th fastest time on Friday as the DTM drivers came to grips with the new street circuit of Shanghai.

“The first free practice session were quite good for me,” Spengler told Auto123.com.

“I did quite a long run, where I regularly improved my lap times, which is quite good and reassuring. We did not make a lot of changes to the car. A usual, we focused our work on the race set up. Things will be different tomorrow, as we will prepare the car for qualifying,” said Spengler.

Spengler talked about the condition of the track, located downtown Shanghai.

“The track layout is interesting. It can also catch you off guard. It offers very little grip and the white lines painted on the tarmac, for the pedestrian crossing zones for example, are covered with some sort of a plastic coating that makes them extremely slippery. When you drive on them at 200 km/h, it requires full concentration because it’s really hazardous,” Spengler said.
