DTM: Gary Paffett clinched first 2010 pole in Hockenheim, Spengler 3rd

By ,

Gary Paffett (C Class Mercedes) secured pole position for the opening round of the 2010 DTM championship in Hockenheim. Canadian Bruno Spengler set 3rd best performance.

The Brit, who was runner-up last year has shown he was one the main title contenders this year again. The Mercedes set the pace in qualifying, with Paffett in pole position, Spengler 3rd, and Jamie Green 4th with a 2008-spec C Class. Martin Tomczyk secured 2nd place on the grid with his Audi A4.

Disapointment for 2008 and 2009 champion Timo Scheider, only 9th on the grid with his Audi A4. Former Formula One drivers are far on the grid: newcomer David Coulthard will start from 17th position, just behind Ralf Schumacher, who will start his third season in DTM with a 2009 C Class Mercedes.
