DTM: Laurens Vanthoor and Daniel Abt targeting Touring drives

Belgium’s Laurens Vanthoor and Germany’s Daniel Abt, now F3 Euroseries drivers, sampled a brand-new Audi A4 DTM car.

"It was shockingly new," admitted Vanthoor to Auto Hebdo .

"You're sitting in the car, all laid back, you feel the power, you feel the tires… It was all very unusual for me, so much that I had a hard time spotting the kerbs."

On the other hand, Daniel Abt confessed about his boyhood dreams of driving a DTM car.

"It was very special for me [to take the wheel of the Audi DTM]. I grew up watching those cars, oh-so-cool, oh-so-fast… and now I'm driving one."

Maybe the initiative was inspired by fellow ex-F3 driver, Scotland's Paul di Resta. He won the Euroseries title in 2006, then went on to the DTM title in 2010, and now is an established F1 driver.

"I had a great time throughout those two days of testing," Abt adds. "Even though F3 and DTM cars are completely different, I think the former is a good stepping stone to the latter."
