DTM : Matthias Ekström clinched pole in Valencia, Bruno Spengler 2nd

By ,

Matthias Ekström (Audi A4) clinched maiden pole position in qualifyings in Valencia in front of Canadian driver Bruno Spengler’s C Class Mercedes.

After a poor start in Hockenheim where they suffered tires problems, the Audi went back to the lead today in Valencia, which is completely different from Hockenheim.

Ekström, only 6th in Hockenheim, will start from pole position on Sunday. The Swede took the pole position away from Bruno Spengler in the last seconds of the fourth and final round of the qualifying session.

The Canadian missed the pole by only 24 thousands of a second. Spengler, who finished second in the opening round in Hockenheim, is confirming his good beginning of season.

British drivers Oliver Jarvis (Audi) and championship leader Gary Paffett will share the second row on the starting grid.

Another disappointment for 2008 and 2009 champion Timo Scheider (Audi), who could not do better than the 10th best performance.

David Coulthard (Mercedes) took 13rd spot in his 2008-spec C-Class Mercedes. The Scot stands just ahead of the 2009-spec C-Class driven by Ralf Schumacher.
