DTM: Pole position for DTM champion Timo Scheider at Zandvoort

By ,

Audi driver, German Timo Scheider claimed pole position for the DTM race held at the Circuit Park Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Setting the fastest lap time of 1:31.590 minutes in the deciding fourth qualifying heat, Scheider clinched the pole; his third pole in Zandvoort and the eighth in his DTM career.

“I still have unfinished business at Zandvoort, because I still have to win a race there in spite of having been on pole twice already. In the race, there is huge pressure on the tyres and the driver. We need a good strategy and a good start. We have to get the first two laps and then we will see”, said 31-year old Scheider.

British driver Gary Paffett (Mercedes C-Class), currently third in the drivers’ standings, will start the race from second place. Paul Di Resta (Mercedes C-Class) ended up third in qualifying.

Spaniard Miguel Molina caused a surprise, putting his Audi A4 fourth on the grid.

Swede Mattias Ekström (Audi), who has already scored a race win and two pole positions this season, will be starting from fifth position.

Point standings’ leader Bruno Spengler of Canada set the fastest time overall in the second round of qualification with a 1:30.959.

However, Spengler, driving a C-Class Mercedes, was unable to match this pace in the third segment and has to be content with 7th place on the grid for tomorrow’s 42-lap race.
