Earlier this week, a gas explosion occurred at Porsche's main factory in Zuffenhausen, slightly injuring two employees. The performance automaker is now creating a crisis management team headed by Production Manager Michael Macht and Staff Association Chairman Uwe Hück.
The cause of this morning's explosion appears to have been a gas-leak from an oven used in the drying of paints at the factory. The sprinkler system was activated- so parts of the factory floor including the production line and paint shop were exposed to water. Initial damage figures are unavailable.Police and fire services were on hand shortly after the incident, as well as the Porsche factory safety unit, and the injured employees were discharged from the hospital as investigations took place.Current estimates indicate that production of the 911 series cars will be at a standstill for up to 3 days. The plant is capable of producing as many as 160 vehicles per day- though the upholstery, body shell assembly and engine assembly operations weren't affected.
