F1 Barcelona: One second between pole and fifth place

By ,

Mark Webber and teammate Sebastian Vettel once again had the best over their rivals, completely dominating the first qualifying session held in Europe in 2010, good for a fifth pole in as many races.

Few surprises in Barcelona where Red Bull had the best on McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes. Michael Schumacher's sixth position compare to an eight for his teammate Nico Rosberg will probably act as the only unexpected result.

Lewis Hamilton managed to take the third place in front of Fernando Alonso who finished close to once full second behind the polesitter. Jenson Button, in fifth reached that point with a lap of 1:20.991 compared to Webber's 1:19.995.

Ferrari can breathe thanks to Alonso's fourth place, nothing to be compared to Massa's ninth.

No surprise again in the back where the three new teams shared the back of the grid. Unfortunately for Vitaly Petrov, a 15th place rapidly became a 20th as he had to change his gearbox (five place penalty) following an off road in practice earlier in the day.
