Belgium's Jérôme d'Ambrosio was recently informed Charles Pic would take over his seat at Virgin, which left him looking for a job. He did have a good first-season in F1, but was he good enough to convince the paddock of his worth?

"I now have my sight set on finding a seat," d'Ambrosio said on ESPNF1 . I've got discussions with a handful of teams going on."

Make is F1 debut for Virgin meant the rookie never had the chance to really shine. At the very least, he did better his more experienced team-mate Timo Glock in the year's standings, even though both failed to score any points.

"I'm in the same situation as last year, except I have one good season of Formula 1 under my belt. People have noticed me, so it makes the negotiations easier."

Still, F1 drives aren't exactly growing on trees these day. Only 8 spots are still 'officially' open, but all of them are already eyed by more than one driver.

No driver has yet been confirmed at Force India, but everything indicates Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg can rest assured. The one spot left at Lotus Renault is on the radar of at least three driver – Bruno Senna, Romain Grosjean and Vitaly Petrov. Where as the one left at Williams is in the clutches of Rubens Barrichello and Adrian Sutil.

Which leaves the Red Bull protégé's territories of Toro Rosso and Hispania. Tonio Liuzzi drives at HRT seems to be safe thanks to an ironclad contract, but all three other spots are in the air. Jaime Alguersuari, Sébastien Buemi, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne each have their own thoughts on who has the best chance.

So, where will d'Ambrosio fit in the puzzle?
