F1: It's Ferrari ahead of Sauber, again

By ,

Felipe Massa again set the quickest time of the day Tuesday at Valencia aboard the new Ferrari F10 , finishing ahead of the surprisingly quick BMW-Sauber of Kamui Kobayashi.

“We continued with some basic set-up work and ran the car on different fuel levels,” said Sauber Technical Director Willy Rampf.

Lewis Hamilton set the third fastest time in the McLaren-Mercedes, just two tenths of a second ahead of Robert Kubica in the Renault R30.

“We did a lot of laps, 119 in total, so we’re pleased with our reliability,” said Alan Permane, Renault Chief Race Engineer. “The changes we made overnight have cured some of the understeer and Robert seems much happier and is feeling more comfortable with the car now.”

Meanwhile, Hamilton said that the car felt like a "huge improvement" and "night and day" compared to the 2009 McLaren.

Nico Rosberg was 5th in the Mercedes W01. Michael Schumacher will take over from Nico tomorrow for the third and final day of this week's test.

Rosberg was followed by Rubens Barrichello in the Williams-Cosworth and Sebastien Buemi in the Toro Rosso.

Overnight, the Toro Rosso team managed to locate and fix the gearbox actuator problem that meant the car spent much of yesterday in the garage.
