According to Formula 1 journalist Will Buxton, French car manufacturer Renault would be in negotiations to sell its Formula 1 team to a company called Gravity .
Buxton, who’s been the GP2 series press officer a few years ago wrote on his internet blog that Luxemburg based company Gravity is apparently in discussion to purchase the Renault F1 Team.
The move would please Renault boss Carlos Ghosn who is apparently trying to pull the plug on the F1 team, not only because of the high costs involved but also because of the bad publicity generated by the infamous Piquet crash-gate of Singapore 2008.
According to the journalist, Gravity also manages the career of Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung who’s been called in at the last minute to test the Renault F1 car in Jerez these days.
Gravity Racing International also entered a Mosler MT900R in this year’s 24 Hours of Spa for Ho-Pin Tung and a certain Jacques Villeneuve .
In his article, Buxton also mentions that Eric Boullier, long time DAMS team manager in various racing series has been hired by Gravity.
In the end, Buxton could see a former Renault F1 team owned by Gravity team, managed by Eric Boullier, and running Villeneuve and Robert Kubica with Tung and Jérôme d’Ambrosio (another driver managed by Gravity) in the role of test drivers.
At the end of 2005, Villeneuve contested three Grands Prix for Renault as a replacement for Jarno Trulli (photos).
And in 1997, Villeneuve won the World Championship, driving a Williams powered by a… Renault engine.
