F1: Michael Schumacher involved in decision to sign Fernando Alonso

Michael Schumacher has revealed he was involved in Ferrari's decision to sign Fernando Alonso .

Michael Schumacher , 40, won five consecutive drivers' world championships with the Maranello based team until 2004, and after retiring from the cockpit in 2006 has been a Ferrari consultant.

"Fernando with Ferrari, that's something I like a lot," the German said on his website michael-schumacher.de. "I was involved from the very beginning in this decision, and I always liked the idea.

"I am sure Fernando will feel well with us, and I can only say: Welcome, Fernando!" Michael Schumacher added.
