F1: Other teams will introduce new chassis in Spain

By ,

Mercedes GP will not be the only team to introduce a new chassis in Barcelona, Spain for one of its drivers, Michael Schumacher .

It appears that Vitantonio Liuzzi will use a new Mercedes-powered Force India VJM03 chassis, Rubens Barrichello will be behind the wheel of a new Cosworth-powered Williams FW32, and the Virgin GP cars’ chassis will also be brand new after they’ve been modified by Wirth Research to accommodate a larger fuel tank.

On his Twitter page, Lotus Racing’s Technical Director Mike Gascoyne confirmed that the team was undergoing Reaserch and Development test.

Gascoyne and Lotus Head of Vehicle Dynamics Elliot Dason-Barber indicated that at least two T127 chassis underwent structural tests on MIRA’s test rig.

This could point out that the T127 chassis is not rigid enough and may flex when severely loaded when going through corners, leading to handling problems.
