Caterham Formula 1 team sporting director, Briton Steve Nielsen will leave the team next month, it has been confirmed.
Nielsen is an F1 veteran, having previously worked at Arrows, Benetton/Renault, Tyrrell and the original Team Lotus, and his experience would be invaluable to any outfit on the grid.
He only joined the Caterham team at the end of the 2011 season.
"Caterham F1 Team has today confirmed that Steve Nielsen is leaving his post of Sporting Director in January," a team spokesperson said.
"The team is currently assessing the best options for his replacement and will make an announcement in due course."
Caterham endured a difficult 2012 season, when it failed to make the steps forward that it had hoped to.
Veteran F1 journalist Joe Saward suggest in his latest blog that Nielsen’s most likely destination is Mercedes AMG, where he would be reunited with Bob Bell and others with whom he worked at Renault.
