F1: Webber on top in Barcelona

By ,

Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber finished on top of the times on the final day of this week's testing at Barcelona.

Rain caused trouble, and limited the mileage of the teams. Webber took advantage of the drying conditions on a day hampered by heavy rain. After a downpour in the morning, the sun dried up the track enough to allow Webber to set a best time of 1:21.953 before the rain hit the track again in the afternoon. That explains the huge advantage Webber has over McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen who finished in second place.Reigning World Champion Kimi Raikkonen took over from Michael Schumacher at the wheel of the updated Ferrari F2008. The Finn did not manage to complete significant running on his only day of work however, covering just 34 laps on his way to the third fastest time.
The strange "elephant ears" fitted on the nosecone of the Honda.
BMW's Robert Kubica was fourth quickest with Jenson Button rounding up the top five in the Honda. The Force India and Toro Rosso teams skipped today's test. Toro Rosso were unable to rebuild their car following Sebastien Bourdais' crash yesterday, and Force India electing not to run in the wet.
