F1: Wild rumours around Jacques Villeneuve's potential return to Formula 1

By ,

Auto123.com finally managed to get a hold of 1997 Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve to get an update on the wild rumours that circulate around his potential return to Formula 1.

Because of his relations with Luxembourg-based Gravity Sport Management, Villeneuve was tipped to race alongside Robert Kubica at Renault F1. The French car manufacturer finally decided to hire Russian driver Vitaly Petrov.

Thursday morning, Villeneuve was this time rumoured to be on Zoran Stefanovi’s shopping list for a driver for Stefan GP. The Serbian team could substitute for Campos if the Spanish team is unable to make it to the grid in Bahrain in March.

Villeneuve’s personal assistant Tristan Jones said about the Stefan GP news: “These are just rumours… period”.

Jacques Villeneuve then told Auto123.com that he has in fact links with Gravity Sport Management and Gerard Lopez of Genii Capital (now the co-owner of the Renault F1 Team).

“Gerard (Lopez) and I are friends, which is a separate thing from the business,” Villeneuve told Auto123.com .

“The Renault F1 seats are now taken. The rest right now is rumors. But rumors always come from somewhere”.
