Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada has kindly sent us a first glance of the new Lancer, which will grace their stage at the Detroit Auto Show next month. As you can see, the new Lancer looks nothing like the outgoing model, with much more aggressive lines. Inspired by the Concept-X show car, Mitsubishi's new compact sedan gives us a taste of the new shape that future models will flaunt.

The Lancer's shape is highlighted by Mitsu calls a 'shark nose' and creased sheetmetal. Built on a platform shared with the new Outlander, the sedan has a longer wheelbase and wider track than the model it replaces. All Lancer models are powered by a new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with double overhead cams and 16 valves, as well as Mitsu's MIVEC variable-valve timing technology. The engine develops 152 horsepower and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or, following the current trend, a continuously-variable transmission (CVT). The GTS model will be equipped with a 6-speed Sportronic gearbox with wheel-mounted paddle shifters.Three Lancer models will be available: the base DE, the mid-level ES, and the sporty GTS. No pricing has been announced yet.
