Ford looks to the East for more success

By ,

We all know Ford is on a bit of an automotive high right now, fresh on the wings of their latest Fiesta rendition hitting North American markets, and the brand new 2012 Ford Focus about to reach the shorelines too. It would seem that Ford execs hope their high is set to last for years to come – at least in Asia – as they boast that the demand for small cars will boost their global sales by 50%.

That's a huge percent, but one that Ford Motor Co. is prepared to stand behind. CEO Alan Mulally stated that by 2020, small cars will account for 55% of vehicle sales. Again, a large number, but one that Ford is fully prepared to support. They expect their global automotive margins to increase to 8-9% in 2015, and they will finance their expansion without new debt while simultaneously improving profit margins. Currently, Ford is in 22% of the Asian car industry, but by 2015 they plan to be in 50%.

While companies like VW and GM currently own the Asian market, Ford is set to prove their cars fit into the small-car segment that's so popular in Asia. Ford has been focused on their North American market as of late due to the recession a few years ago, but with their sights clearly set on eastern skies, their plans for success are both lofty and attainable.
