Dean Stoneman and Philipp Eng took a victory each in the 3rd and 4th rounds of the 2010 Formula Two championship in Marrakech. Eng is the new points’ leader.
Dean Stoneman clinched his first F2 victory in race 1 after he started from the pole. The Brit took victory ahead of Philipp Eng and Kelvin Snoeks, while championship leader Jolyon Palmer was forced to retire with mechanical issues in the last laps, while he was running second.
Philipp Eng clinched his second season victory in Race 2. The Austrian started from the pole, and stayed in front until the checkered flag. Eng moved up to first position in provisional classification. Race 1 winner Dean Stoneman took second place, and stands now in second position in championship. Will Bratt took 3rd position in race 2 in Marrakech.
The race got off to a dramatic start when Ricardo Teixeira rode up the back of Russian racer Ivan Samarin's car at high speed on the back straight.
As the pack approached the chicane for the first time, Teixeira's car became airborne following the impact and flipped over. Fortunately for the Angolan driver his car landed on all four wheels and he was able to walk away from a frightening accident.
Ivan Samarin, Benjamin Bailly, Parthiva Sureshwaren and Nicola De Marco were all taken out in the incident and a lengthy safety car period followed.
