Frankfurt 2011: Say hello to the Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Edition

By ,

Infiniti has finally lifted the veil on the very special FX designed by F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel.

The brand’s standard bearing FX50S V8 Premium served as a canvas for the project, born of a simple discussion between the driver and Infiniti’s design guru, Shiro Nakamura. The goal was to transform the crossover into a pavement-pounding brute.

Ground clearance is 20 mm lower, the grille has been revised to reflect the Essence concept and a carbon fibre rear spoiler has been added. All these elements combined improve the FX’s aerodynamics, translating into 30% more downforce and 5% less drag.

The original 5.0-litre V8, electronically limited to 250 km/h, has been given free rein and boosted by 30 hp by reprogramming the ECU and integrating a new exhaust system. The result? Top speeds of 300 km/h and a 0-100 km/h dash in 5.6 seconds (that’s 2 tenths quicker than the standard model).

Inside, black carbon panels grace the doorsills and the centre console, while the traditionally shiny chrome bits have taken on a more sober hue.

The steering wheel and its paddles are wrapped in Alcantara leather, and the seats are covered in quilted black suede with purple stitching and feature an SV logo. The material also appears on the roof pillars, roof and sunshades. The finishing touch is of course the world champion’s signature etched onto a metal plate on the centre console.
