From Formula E
Freddie Hunt, son of 1976 Formula 1 World Champion James Hunt, is to become a driver ambassador for the all-electric FIA Formula E Championship.
The 27-year-old Brit – a racer like his father – will act as an official spokesman for the new series focusing on sustainability, as well as driving the Formula E test car during promotional events.
Hunt junior will also attend the first race in Beijing on September 13, including the championships’ prestigious Gala Dinner launch event held the evening before at the Imperial Temple in the Forbidden City.
“It’s a real honour to be given this opportunity with Formula E and to use it to help make people more aware of the championship, as well as to highlight the importance of sustainable mobility and clean energy,” said Hunt.
“As a long-time advocate of the environment, I believe what Formula E is trying to achieve is fantastic and I’m looking forward to being a part of this and also to test the car.”
Like his father, Freddie has a passion for motorsport and has raced in British Formula Ford, ADAC Formel Masters and the ADAC Cruze Cup. Later this year Freddie will contest the MRF Challenge alongside teammate Mathias Lauda – son of three times Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda.
