Geneva 2011: The ETHEREA, a look at Infiniti's next entry-level offering

By ,

Infiniti took advantage of the Geneva Motor Show to present the ETHEREA, a compact hatchback giving us a glimpse of a future entry-level model.

Under the hood we find a hybrid system similar to that of the Infiniti M35h. It combines a 2.5-litre, supercharged 4-cylinder mill producing 245 hp with an electric engine and a continuously variable transmission that dispatches power to the front wheels – an Infiniti first.

On the outside, the model is characterized by the absence of a B pillar, a long wheelbase, short overhangs, suicide doors in back, LED headlamps, a slightly elevated body and a grille that departs from the brand’s current products.

Infiniti says the cabin is extremely liveable, thanks in part to the absence of a transmission tunnel as well as a flat floor. The dash features two touch screens controlling things like air conditioning and entertainment devices while displaying relevant vehicle and travel information.
