By ,

Performance enthusiasts at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show were treated to the all-new Gumpert Tornante. Set to go on sale in 2012, it will prove highly exhilarating yet comfortable for the driver and passenger.

Under the sheetmetal is a 700-horsepower, twin-turbo V8 with a ground-shaking 663.7 lb-ft of torque. The powerplant teams up with a 6-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters.

Using an Apollo-derived monocoque architecture and composite body, the Gumpert Tornante is said to exceed 300 km/h, making it virtually as fast as a Formula 1 car. The motorsport-style, double-wishbone suspension delivers handling to match engine performance.

The company added a few elements that increase comfort levels over long distances, starting with adjustable sports seats, extra noise and heat insulation as well as improved climate control. Modifications to the frame make the Tornante more accessible and capable of storing a respectable 200 litres of cargo.

As previously announced, Gumpert intends to launch a new variant using alternative energy for 2012. No further information has been provided, however. Will it be a hybrid or a full EV? Stay tuned.
