GM PUBLIC WEBSITE GETS OVERHAUL

By ,

Visitors to GM of Canada's revised website can now connect directly to the many of the firm's dealers to make service appointments, set up test drives, and search dealer inventories.

They can also "subscribe" to a particular vehicle through www.gmcanada.com and be sent regular updates on marketing and product features related to that car or minivan or truck or whatever.

As for that connection to the many of the dealerships across Canada, Dick Conlin, GM of Canada's vice-president of marketing, says, "We recognize the important link between GM of Canada and our dealers. The site now allows customers to interact with select GM dealers across the country from the comfort of their own home."

Along with setting up test drives and so on, Conlin says, "Customers can also take advantage of specials and incentives offered on the dealer websites. While all GM dealers are not fully linked to the site today, the process of providing customers with these advanced communication features is well underway."

Dave McCall, GM of Canada's director of internet, says, "We conducted extensive customer research to gain a better understanding of today's connected consumer and we are very excited about the current enhancements to the site as well as those coming in the near future."

Some of the new features "on the horizon" include a vehicle locator, which allows on-line consumers to search for a specific vehicle within a specified kilometer radius, a "comparator" that provides comparisons between GM models and competitive vehicles, and enhanced financing tools.
