GM recalls over 40,000 vehicles

By ,

A major recall has just been issued by General Motors on a grand total of 40,029 vehicles, including Chevrolet Malibu (2008-2010), Pontiac G6 (2008-2010) and Saturn Aura (2007-2010) models in Canada.

On certain vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, shift cable locking tabs could fracture without warning. If this occurs, the transmission may not be in the PARK position and may not match the gear position indicated by the shift lever. The vehicle could, among other things, roll away after the driver has exited, resulting in a possible crash.

GM dealers will fix the problem by installing a shift cable retainer clip or replacing the shift cable, as necessary.
