In June, Mercedes-Benz posted an ad on their YouTube channel featuring Google's Senior VP of Social, Vic Gundotra. Vic owns a 2010 S63 and the ad is all about an experience he had behind the wheel of his Merc.
Now, besides the commercial being a bit too long for our liking (really, 3:26? Who has time to watch a 3-minute video nowadays?!), it also seems a bit over the top. Vic spends the entire commercial telling the viewers about how his Mercedes saved his life, and the life of the driver in front of him, with the collision prevention system one day when he was distracted behind the wheel. He then, of course, moves into his career at Google and the connection between his job in innovation and the innovation behind the technology in his Merc.
It's a cool concept, but one that seems a bit staged. Ringing endorsements from elite businessmen and Hollywood stars is often hard to take seriously. We'd like to think Vic is being sincere, but do you believe him? And does it change our opinion of Mercedes or make you want to go out and buy one?
