Google's self-driving cars hit one million miles

By ,

Google's self-driving cars have now covered more than one million miles (1.6 million kilometres) on public roads since testing began in 2009, according to the Google Self-Driving Car Project account.
The initial goal was to travel 100,000 miles fully autonomously, which at the time represented 10 times the farthest distance any other self-driving car had ever gone.

Google cars have crossed 180 million vehicles, 200,000 stop signs, and 600,000 traffic lights, not to mention the many construction sites and orange cones. This is the equivalent of 75 years of driving for the average American!
