Bird claimed his maiden GP2 win of the season in fine style, keeping his head straight through the chaos that raged all round him to take the chequered flag ahead of his ART teammate Jules Bianchi and countryman Oliver Turvey.

Series' point leader Pastor Maldonado put one hand on the trophy when Sergio Perez was punted out of the race on the third lap.

Christian Vietoris took his first series' win with a storming start which caught his rivals napping. He then had a controlled drive but under extreme pressure to greet the chequered flag ahead of Jerome d'Ambrosio and Sam Bird.

Maldonado failed to finish but nevertheless claimed the driver's championship.

He secured the title when Sergio Perez went wide in Parabolica corner, and was forced to retire.
