HHR to join Chevrolet's SS Family with 260 horspower

By ,

Combining the versatility and space of the Chevrolet HHR with a healthy dose of performance will be the job of the upcoming HHR SS model. It's not a name that easily rolls off the tongue, though it's sure to roll quickly off of dealer lots and into the driveways of family oriented performance buffs. Designed by General Motors Performance Division (GMPD), the HHR SS is motivated by a 2.0 litre turbocharged, intercooled four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower. Underneath the HHR SS is a custom-developed FE5 suspension setup with special stabilizer bars and damper tuning designed specifically for the turbocharged drivetrain. The suspension was tuned at Nurburgring, and can deliver 0.86 cornering g's, GMPD says.
"With its muscular stance, turbocharged power and track-capable handling, the HHR SS is a worthy addition to SS lineup," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "It also reaffirms in a big way Chevy's commitment to the sport compact market."HHR SS is set apart with unique styling cues including front and rear fascias, new mesh grilles, new rocker moldings, SS badges and 18" wheels. The latest Chevrolet to wear an SS badge arrives in showrooms later this year. photo: General Motors
