After it launches in the U.S. in late 2016, the new Honda Clarity Fuel Cell will be joined in 2017 by the Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-in Hybrid ― similar to the equally new Hyundai IONIQ .
The key difference is that it’s the first vehicle in the auto industry to offer fuel cell, electric, and plug-in hybrid technology on one model platform.
Furthermore, the Honda Clarity Electric will be the first affordable, midsize, 5-passenger battery electric vehicle (BEV) to offer premium content and features, the automaker claims. Meanwhile, the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid will debut in all 50 U.S. states later in 2017 and will be the volume leader in the series, combining an all-electric driving range in excess of 40 miles (64 kilometres) with a hyper-efficient, gasoline-hybrid extended range mode.
Standard equipment across all models will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as Honda Sensing safety and driver-assist technology.
Plans for the Honda Clarity in Canada have yet to be announced.
