Much like Toyota, Honda is slowly but surely getting back on its feet after the massive earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan a few weeks ago. The automaker announced today that beginning Monday, April 11, limited production of finished automobiles will resume at the Sayama and Suzuka plants, exactly one month after they were forced to shut down.
Honda also confirmed that limited production of component parts for North American plants will resume on Monday, April 4 at approximately 50 percent of the original production plan. However, American and Canadian auto plants will see their temporary levels of reduced production continue through April 15. Additional production disruptions are anticipated even after that date.
The vast majority of Honda's parts and materials are sourced here in North America, although a few critical parts continue to be supplied from Japan for global efficiency.
Finally, the company added that most of its Japanese-based parts suppliers have resumed production and those that haven't yet are receiving help to re-establish their operations. Honda is also evaluating additional sources for some parts in the supply chain.
